when I lost my husband eight years ago...

I was stunned. Lost. Scared.

I didn't think in long thoughts, only short gasps.

I couldn't write full sentences.

As a playwright I knew that language could be transformative.

So I started writing fragments of thoughts. Documenting the broken bits.

Writing me down on paper gave me a way through the most difficult moments, and the most difficult days.

I gradually made my way through a landscape of radical change and loss. I made meaning from my experience in ways that oriented and stabilized me.

I began to feel alive, present and even hopeful.

This process inspired the make meaning workshop.

Crisis comes to pass,

it is not here to stay.

When crisis interrupts our life, how can we make meaning and begin our healing?

How can we make meaning out of grief?

How can we make meaning out of loss?

How can we move from heartbroken to heart broken open?
